FOM logo ABOUT US
Since 1978!
OUR MISSION is to assist the work of the National Heritage Board (NHB) and its programmes by providing members with opportunities for service through training, study and self-enrichment. The National Heritage Board is the governing body of the museums and guides us in our endeavours.

Friends of the Museums (FOM) was formed in 1978 by four individuals interested in supporting Singapore's National Museum (to learn more about our history, see FOM History below). From these humble beginnings, the organisation has grown to more than 1400 members drawn from all corners of the world who currently support five museums: the National Museum of Singapore (NMS), the Singapore Art Museum (SAM), the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM), the Peranakan Museum (TPM) and the Singapore Tyler Print Institute (STPI).

Our priorities continue to be our assistance to the NHB, and thus Singapore, to deepen awareness of, and interest in, Asian culture, history and the arts - both among Singaporeans (who represent approximately 25% of our membership) and an expatriate community of some 40 nationalities. To this end, we offer weekday, weekend, and evening opportunities for education and self-enrichment.

The future holds many possible volunteer opportunities for FOM members, not only with the museums, but with other institutions as well. The vision of the National Heritage Board is to make "heritage an enriching part of everyone's life". The Friends of the Museums (Singapore), through our programmes and activities, helps this vision become reality!
